About Amba's Tools

Amba's Tools is a collection of 68 free file converters that run entirely inside your web browser. It exists because the usual online converters are slow, plastered with fake download buttons, and quietly upload your personal photos and recordings to someone else's server.

How it works

Modern browsers can run compiled code at near-native speed through WebAssembly. We compile proven open-source media libraries (FFmpeg for video and audio, libheif for iPhone photos, and our own Rust code for GIF processing) into WebAssembly modules that load on demand. Your file is read into your browser's memory, processed there, and handed back as a download. Nothing is transmitted.

The trade-off is that heavy jobs use your device's processor rather than a data centre, so re-encoding a long 1080p video takes a few minutes on a laptop. For images, audio, GIFs, and container swaps it is faster than any upload-based service, because there is no upload.

Who runs it

Amba's Tools is an independent project built and maintained by one developer. It is funded by unobtrusive advertising; there is no premium tier, no account, and no data selling.

Something broken?

If a file fails to convert, we would like to know. Send the format, the browser you used, and what went wrong to help@amba.tools. Please do not send the file itself unless it is something you are happy to share.
