HTML marks text up with tags. <h1>My first page</h1> is a top-level heading: an opening tag, the content, a closing tag with a slash. <p> is a paragraph. Headings run from <h1> (one per page, the title) down to <h6>, and they describe importance, not size; size is CSS's job.
The document skeleton is <!doctype html>, an <html> element containing <head> (information about the page, such as <title> and styles) and <body> (what is shown). The preview on the right renders your document as you type; press Run to have it checked.
