A favicon or Windows icon is not one image but a bundle of the same picture at several sizes, so the browser tab, the bookmarks bar, the taskbar, and the desktop each get a version drawn for their pixel size. This tool builds that bundle from a single PNG: tick the sizes you need and it scales the image to each one, wraps them in a standard ICO container, and keeps the transparency.
Downscaling is done in steps, so a 512 pixel logo still reads clearly at 16 pixels instead of turning into a smudge. For pixel art, switch to crisp scaling to keep the hard edges. The result works as favicon.ico on any website and as an icon for Windows programs, shortcuts, and folders.
Everything happens inside your browser. Your file is never uploaded to a server: the conversion runs on your own device using WebAssembly, and the result is downloaded straight from memory. Close the tab and nothing is left behind.

Frequently asked questions
Which sizes should a favicon have?
16, 32, and 48 pixels cover browser tabs, bookmarks, and the Windows taskbar. Add 256 if the same file will be used as a Windows app or shortcut icon.
Does the ICO keep transparency?
Yes. Each size is stored as a PNG with full alpha transparency, which every current browser and Windows since Vista support.
My image is not square. What happens?
It is fitted inside the square with transparent padding, so nothing is cropped or stretched. Crop it to a square first if you want it to fill the icon.
How do I use the favicon on my site?
Upload it as favicon.ico in the root of your site and add <link rel="icon" href="/favicon.ico"> to the page head. Browsers also pick up /favicon.ico automatically.
Is this really free?
Yes. The site is supported by ads, and there are no limits on how many files you convert.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. The converter runs entirely in your browser. Files stay on your device, which also makes it faster than upload-based converters for anything larger than a few megabytes.
Is there a file size limit?
The only limit is your device's memory. Images and audio of any normal size are fine; for video, files under about 500 MB work well on most laptops and phones.
