About this tool
Banners and shields are built from up to six pattern layers in a loom (sixteen with commands), and the order matters. This designer shows the banner as you stack layers, in the game's dye colors, and writes the exact /give command for the current item component syntax (1.20.5 and newer) as well as the older NBT syntax (1.13 to 1.20.4), for either the banner or a shield carrying it. Designs live in the page link, so you can share one by copying the URL.
For survival play, the loom steps list what each layer needs: most patterns come free from the loom, while a few (creeper, skull, flower, globe, thing, snout, bricks, bordure indented, flow, guster) need their banner pattern item alongside the dye.
How to use it
- Pick a base color and add layers, each a pattern in a dye color; reorder them to change what is on top.
- Switch the preview to Shield to see it on a shield.
- Copy the /give command for your version, or follow the loom steps to craft it in survival.
Questions
Why does my command not work?
Check the version. Java 1.20.5 changed item data to components, so the two commands are not interchangeable. Flow and guster patterns exist only from 1.21. Bedrock Edition uses different commands and is not covered.
How do I put the banner on a shield?
In survival, place a shield and the finished banner together in a crafting grid. With commands, switch the preview to Shield and use that /give command, which sets the shield's base color and patterns directly.
Do the previews match the game exactly?
The geometric patterns follow the game's layout; the picture charges (creeper, skull, flower, globe, thing, snout, flow, guster) are simplified stand-ins because the real artwork belongs to Mojang. The command output is exact either way.
