About this tool
Drop in any image and get it back at exactly 8 × 8 pixels as a PNG. This size is used for the tiniest tiles and sprites: 8 × 8 is the tile size of classic 8-bit consoles, of many roguelike fonts, and of the smallest emoji-style pixel art. Batch mode resizes a whole folder at once, so a set of sprites or textures comes out perfectly uniform.
Pick smooth scaling for photos and logos, or crisp scaling for pixel art and textures, which keeps every pixel hard-edged instead of blurring it. Images that are not square are centered with transparent padding by default, so nothing is stretched or cut off unless you ask for it.

Questions
Smooth or crisp?
Smooth blends pixels for photos and logos. Crisp keeps every pixel sharp, which is what you want for pixel art, sprites, and game textures. Crisp gives the best result when the new size is a whole multiple or divisor of the original.
What happens to images that are not square?
By default the image is fitted inside the square and the leftover space is transparent. Choose fill to crop the long sides instead, or stretch to ignore the proportions.
What format is the result?
PNG, so transparency and exact pixels are preserved. Use PNG to JPG afterwards if you need a JPG.
