About this tool
One converter for the conversions that come up in recipes, DIY, travel, shopping, and homework: centimeters to inches, kilograms to pounds, Celsius to Fahrenheit, miles to kilometers, cups to milliliters, gigabytes to megabytes, miles per gallon to liters per 100 km, and the rest. Pick the measure, type a value, and every unit in that category is shown at once, plus a quick reference table for the pair you chose.
The factors are the exact definitions (an inch is 25.4 mm, a pound is 0.45359237 kg, a US gallon is 3.785411784 liters); cooking units use US customary sizes with UK gallons and pints available separately.
How to use it
- Pick the kind of measure (length, weight, temperature, and so on).
- Enter a value and choose the from and to units.
- Read the result, the rate, and the value in every other unit of that kind.
Questions
Are the cooking units US or metric cups?
US customary: a cup is 236.6 ml, a tablespoon 14.8 ml, a teaspoon 4.9 ml. A metric cup is 250 ml and an Australian tablespoon 20 ml, so scale accordingly for those recipes.
Why do GB and GiB differ?
Storage makers count in powers of 1000 (1 GB = 1,000,000,000 bytes); operating systems often count in powers of 1024 (1 GiB = 1,073,741,824 bytes). A 1 TB drive shows as about 931 GiB.
