Boomerang GIF Maker

Turn any GIF into a boomerang that plays forward then in reverse, looping smoothly, in your browser. Optional speed change. No upload, no watermark.

Accepts .gif · Processed on your device, never uploaded

Runs on gifkit, a GIF encoder written in Rust and compiled to WebAssembly. Your file stays in this tab.

About this tool

A boomerang plays the clip forward, then backward, so the loop never jumps: a wave, a jump, a spin, or a nod goes out and comes back forever. Drop a GIF and the frames are mirrored in time (the first and last frames are not doubled, so the turn-around is seamless), then re-encoded at the same or a faster speed.

Works best on short clips of a single motion. To make one from a video, use Video to GIF first with a one or two second clip, then bounce it here.

How to use it

  1. Drop your GIF files into the box above, or click to browse. Nothing is uploaded.
  2. Adjust the options if you want; the defaults suit most files.
  3. Click the button and wait a moment.
  4. Download the results individually or all at once as a ZIP.

Questions

Will the file get bigger?

Almost twice as many frames, so roughly twice the size. Run it through Compress GIF afterwards if it needs to fit a limit.

Can I boomerang a video?

Convert the clip with Video to GIF first (a couple of seconds is ideal), then use this tool.

Is it free, are files uploaded, which browsers work: the general questions are answered once for the whole site.
