About this tool
Every photo from a phone or camera carries a hidden block of metadata called EXIF: which camera and lens took it, the exposure settings, the exact time, the software that edited it, and often the GPS coordinates of where you were standing. This viewer reads all of it on your device and lays it out in plain language, with a map link when a location is present.
Use it to check what a photo reveals before you post it, to recover the settings behind a shot you like, or to find out when and where an old picture was taken. Nothing is uploaded, which is the point when the file contains your location.
Everything happens inside your browser. Your file is never uploaded to a server: the conversion runs on your own device using WebAssembly, and the result is downloaded straight from memory. Close the tab and nothing is left behind.

Frequently asked questions
Why does my photo have no metadata?
Most social networks and messaging apps strip it on upload, and screenshots never had any. Photos straight from a camera or phone usually have plenty.
Does this remove the metadata?
No, it only shows it. Use the Remove EXIF tool to strip it before sharing.
Can I see metadata from HEIC iPhone photos?
Yes, HEIC, JPG, PNG, WebP, TIFF, and AVIF are supported.
Is this really free?
Yes. The site is supported by ads, and there are no limits on how many files you convert.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. The converter runs entirely in your browser. Files stay on your device, which also makes it faster than upload-based converters for anything larger than a few megabytes.
Is there a file size limit?
The only limit is your device's memory. Images and audio of any normal size are fine; for video, files under about 500 MB work well on most laptops and phones.
Which browsers are supported?
Current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari on desktop and mobile. Very old browsers without WebAssembly support will not work.
